We just had to share this story involving our very favorite type of dog. It was because of his breed that the Atlanta Sheriff's Dept. decided to make Titan the fist canine recipient of their 'Neighbor of the Year Award'.  Nice work, Titan!

Titan shows off his Neighbor of the Year Award

CBS News Atlanta:

In keeping with the adage that every dog has his day, Titan's time to shine came early one July morning this year when owner John Benton was heading out of the family home for work.

He said that his normally docile dog was barking and running in circles, blocking the door and seemingly trying to get his attention.

He added that Titan ran up and down the stairs a number of times, and that it was clear that the dog wanted him to follow.

When Mr Benton finally followed the dog up the stairs, he found his wife Gloria had collapsed on the floor, bleeding from a nasty head wound.

He called 911 and Mrs Benton was rushed to hospital, where doctors said she had suffered a brain aneurysm and had fractured her skull while falling.

Mr Benton said the doctors agreed that getting Mrs Benton to the hospital quickly undoubtedly saved her life.

He told CBS Atlanta: 'Lo and behold, they said if it wasn't for this dog - the time frame involved, if we hadn't have been as quick as we had - she wouldn't have been here, because if I leave I don't check in again until two o'clock in the afternoon, so she would have bled to death or the aneurysm would have killed her.'

Mrs Benton said that when her son first brought Titan home, she was less than pleased about the choice of breed.

She said: 'I was really upset because my son brought him home and I said, "Why on earth did you get a dog like that?", you know, because you hear so many bad things about them.'

'But it didn't take long for him to win me over.'

No doubt Titan's actions in July have won Mrs Benton over even more.
